They cast broad vision for us in telling us stories of their work, especially speaking of their intent to put Christ- on a- Lampstand. They sought to make it public knowledge among that people group that there are Christians among them (albeit, when they started, very very few.) Most people there thought that if you are in that people group, then you ARE MUSLIM. In their minds there is simply no in between, no other option.... if you have breath, you breathe it as a follower of Islam. (A bit like some people think of Americans all being Christians, but this is way more severe.)
So they launched a campaign to announce Christianity publicly and bless and support the tiny number of Christians and invite many more to come... God gave grace. Today, about 22 years after they began, there are over a thousand CHURCHES there.
Oh to dream. Oh to pray that the Lord would do something so great among Uyghurs. We have dozens more obstacles here with this government and what it will allow. But ...
Nothing is impossible with God!
This is why we are praying!
I just found this link to an article, well worth reading... Sadly, it tells how perhaps what was intended as a similar strategy in Afghanistan, or perhaps a mistake that someone allowed, appears to be back-firing right now. In May a video was aired in Afghanistan of Afghan converts being baptized and having a prayer meeting. Now there are protests in the streets and people calling for foreigners to be expelled and Afghan Christians killed.
Let's pray!
