We had a neat group of university student friends in our home with us about two weeks ago. They were glad to be able to cook a traditional meal and eat it together around the time of their Kor ban holiday. We've heard some more experienced missnys explain that Ko rban might be as great as Easter for leading into share the Gospel story.
Uy ghurs celebrate Ko rban by slaughtering a lamb and looking ahead with hope that that lamb will advocate for them before God..... it's just a hope, as there is no guarantee of forgiveness in Islam. Oh that they would be given eyes to see, ears to hear that Jesus truly is "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"
Would you please ask that the Lord would lead us with wisdom to be bold in our sharing, our proclaiming of his truth with these friends? We so long to be able to tell them the story of Jesus in their own heart language, but we're still a fair ways off from that. Using Chinese and English to supplement is still necessary.... Pray that we would grab onto the opportunities that the Lord opens for proclaiming his Gospel in any of these three languages, and hopefully in a way that communicates "gentleness and respect" to them and is full of urgency, the clear truth of Christ!
As for the court case for the farms (see the post below) we've yet to hear any update... but we'll let you know when we do.
As always, please do pray for the small, young Uyghur church. They face enormous hurdles of persecution, disunity, falling prey to heresies and cults, and deceptive national political temptations (U believers have sometimes resorted to staunch support of a "Free the Uy gh ur nation" platform in order to demonstrate that they are true Uy ghurs..... Believers in Christ are usually labelled turncoats, not true U.'s, so some have taken up radical, un-Christlike politics as a way to defend against this.)
Pray that believers would be strengthened in the Word, strong in unity among the Uyghur church and with Han Chinese Christians as well. Pray that the Lord would bring together solid, godly marriages to grow up solid Christian famililes. Ask that the Lord would cause His grace to flourish among the Uyghur people to beautify the whole culture- music, writing, art, dance. Please pray that the Lord would prepare the hearts of Uygh urs across Xin Jiang that many would soon turn to Christ- hearing of him from Uyghur believers, Han believers, radio broadcasts or foreign workers.
Move mightily across the Uyghur nation Lord! Draw them to yourself, for their joy and your great glory!
