We are not political activists.
It's just that there are things happening here that are beyond what we can say, beyond reason. What of the Alma-Ata Declaration of Human Rights? And of course, our heart is that all people should be treated as unique masterpieces from a Master Creator, each dignified and due courtesy and respect.
We're not animal rights loyalists either but one animal incident heard of recently goes to show the barbarism and cruelty and absolute failure of accountability running on the ground here right now. The story is that a police officer beat (clubbed) a Golden Retriever dog to death. The dog was chained around the neck and the police officer beat him for more than an hour. Two spectators that captured the scene on video were arrested and jailed for exposing and incriminating a police officer who was caring for public safety.

My friend has lived in desperate fear for the past month especially. She's received a dozen phone calls now- police officers all listing their demands: what papers she needs to turn in, where she needs to go, signatures she needs to get. She completed the retinal scan, blood work, finger prints, and voice recording that are common here now. But they keep demanding more.
One evening when she was especially fearful- she had to walk in the dark to the station and she didn't know what they'd say to her there- I met with her. Prayed for her. (This one beautiful heart, beautifully trusts in Christ as her all.) Cried with her. And then as I left and she said good byes to her family (for she wasn't sure how long) I told her "The Lord is with you."
I've never balled over those words before. But could there be any better news?
Well, that, and.... He will wipe away every tear and make every wrong and broken thing come untrue and be fully redeemed. The Gospel is good news for all who trust in Him. And all of the promises of God for His people are LIFE.
And He will turn these wrong things into right and He Will Avenge. If there was no judge, no ultimate justice, how could we hope? How could we live?
He is our Hope. He is with you. He is with us. No matter where we go, no matter where we are. Not alone.
Good, good news like an anchor for our weary souls.
